Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments Construction Progress

October 15, 2025: In month 17 of construction, ceiling installation began on the first and second floors, and Acrovyn wall coverings—a durable, easy-to-clean material—were added throughout the second floor and main hallways. Floor tile work started in bathroom and kitchen areas, and orders for furniture, network equipment, phones, and AEDs are underway. Up next: concrete work in the alley, final finishes for upper-level apartments, continued elevator installation, kitchen equipment delivery, and artist selections for original on-site artwork.

September 15, 2025: In month 16 of construction, sheetrock, taping, and paint began, as well as flooring installation. Light and bathroom fixtures and kitchen cabinetry installation continued. Up next: Finishing and exterior work will continue, along with furniture and laundry equipment ordering. Artists will be selected to create original artworks for the building.

August 15th, 2025: In July and August, crews completed drilling two 500-foot geothermal wells, finished the exterior weather barrier, poured the garage floor, and wrapped up sheetrock on upper levels. Painting and tile installation are underway, with flooring, cabinets, and elevator work up next.

June 20th, 2025: 13 months into construction, work on the building envelope moved ahead—including water barrier installation, brickwork, and more windows. Insulation and sheetrock are going up on the third and fourth floors, and key inspections for electrical, mechanical, and vapor barriers were completed.

May 12th, 2025: May was another productive month at Simpson Community Shelter & Apartments! Crews continued framing on the basement and lower floors, made progress on mechanical and electrical work, and began prep for exterior brickwork.

April 15th, 2025: At 11 months in, framing moved ahead, windows started going in, roof work continued, and internal design decisions—like tile and front desk finishes—began taking shape.

March 10th, 2025: We are now 10 months into construction at the new Shelter, and the site is really coming along. Crews completed waterproofing and backfilling around the foundation, framing continued on the third floor, and work began on the fourth. Water service was also successfully connected to the building.

February 14, 2025: In month 9 of construction, workers completed important work on the basement, installed decking, and began framing walls. Despite severe cold that halted work, construction is still on schedule. Next up: window installation, more framing, and work on the fourth floor. Simpson is reviewing interior finishes with the input of shelter staff and guests.

January 10, 2025: Workers have completed the post-tension concrete pour for the third floor and columns, laying down blankets to retain heat while the concrete sets. Next, workers will start framing walls, install plumbing in the basement, and pour concrete for the basement floor.

December 11, 2024: Despite extreme cold, workers have completed the post-tension concrete pour for the second floor of the building and poured concrete for the columns. Work on the third floor will begin later this month.

November 15, 2024: The first six months of construction is now complete! Workers prepared for the post-tension concrete pour of the second floor, as well as excavating and beginning construction on the garage area.

October 20, 2024: Work begins on the garage area and second floor. Work continues on the basement and first floor.

October 12, 2024: The post-tension concrete pour for the first floor of the building is underway, and workers have begun pouring columns and walls on the first floor.

September 27, 2024: The basement and foundation walls have been poured. Work will continue on the basement as the team begins to build the building’s first floor.

September 6, 2024: Concrete work continues, and a massive red crane arrived on site this week.  The crane is important as we transition from all of the foundation work to building up. We’ll see our first and second floors starting to take shape in the next few weeks.

August 8, 2024: Workers poured concrete for the foundation and footings and constructed wood forms to pour walls. Sewer, water, and storm water lines are now aligned so the building can be connected to utilities.

July 12, 2024: Workers excavated the basement and began work on the building’s foundation.
