Art 4 Shelter fundraiser returns for its 12th year

Join us in person May 13-14 at Glass House, 145 Holden St., Minneapolis

May 2, 2022 –MINNEAPOLIS, MN: Simpson Housing Services is thrilled to announce Art 4 Shelter, its annual art sale/fundraiser, is back in 2022, with several in-person and virtual sales and events!

Art 4 Shelter is a beloved community event held every year, showcasing the donated works of hundreds of generous artists for a massive exhibition and sale. The 1,200original pieces will be displayed anonymously at Glass House May 13th and 14th and offered for fixed, affordable prices ($35 for a 5”x7” image, $90 for an 8”x10” image, etc.). These prices reflect the cost of housing a shelter guest for one night.

Attendees are invited to explore during the in-person events on May 13th and May 14th and then pluck whatever art compels them right off the walls, not knowing until later if they’ve been created by an established favorite or an emerging artist. It’s like a treasure hunt, a night of discovery, and a showcase of our massively talented creative community all in one. In addition to the in-person art sale, there will also be an online auction on May 13th from 11:30 am to 9:00 pm and a virtual art sale in from June 1 to June 5. In-person events will take place at Glass House –145 Holden St. N, Minneapolis –with music and fun all weekend.

At Friday’s Free Benefit Art Sale, attendees will enjoy complimentary wine and light hors d’oeuvres as they explore. The best part? All proceeds go toward Simpson Housing Services’ shelter and housing programs.Simpson annually serves 2,000 people, including 300 families and 600 children.

“This event has come to represent so much of what Simpson is,” Simpson Board Member and Art 4 Shelter Committee Chair Audra Williams says. “When we share art with one another, we’re sharing beauty; we’re celebrating our community’s identity and ideas. And thanks to the talented artists who show up year after year, we’re sharing shelter, too.”

Since its inception in 2011, Art 4 Shelter has raised $900,000, providing 25,714 nights of shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness.

In 2022, Simpson is also marking its 40th year serving the community, which adds another special milestone to this year’s event.

“Art 4 Shelter is a tremendous collaboration with the arts community, leveraging our shared passion for social justice,” says Steve Horsfield, who serves as Simpson’s executive director. “We are grateful to focus this energy to generate significant financial support for our shelter and housing programs.”
