Otters. If you ask artist Kat Corrigan about the themes she’s currently pursuing, she’ll tell you about the series of otter paintings she’s working on. “I see them as go-betweens for us humans to understanding death,” she says. “They live comfortably between water and air, suspended and fluid, and I see them as a metaphor for the passage.” Kat’s father passed away suddenly in November 2015 and her work painting animals is helping her deal with the loss. “I use brilliant colors to depict the spirit of the creature I see,” she says.

Kat has been contributing her art to Art 4 Shelter since the beginning she says. “Megan (Megan Rye and her mother, Karen Rye, co-founded Art 4 Shelter) is a very convincing and generous soul, and her respect for artists draws all of us in,” she says.

Kat’s work can be seen at Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota, MN, the Edina Art Center, Artistry at the Bloomington Center for the Arts, the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts in Fridley, and the Minnetonka Center for the Arts.
