Artist Feature: Ruthann Godollei

Bunting by Ruthann Godollei

Ruthann Godollei’s prints, created in a wide variety of media, contain social and political content that engages viewers. “My prints incorporate political and social commentary with a touch of ironic humor. I play text and images off each other and prompt the viewer to reconsider pressing issues in new contexts,” she says.

Ruthann has been contributing to Art 4 Shelter since 2011. “The inspirational and important work done by Simpson Housing Services deserves the support of artists and the community. I can turn an ordinary piece of paper into shelter for those who need it most,” says Ruthann.

Ruthann is the Wallace Professor of Art at Macalester College where she won a
Jefferson Award for teaching and service to the college. Recently, her work received the 2016 Juror’s Choice Award in the Stand Out Prints exhibit at Highpoint Center for Printmaking in Minneapolis and a 2016 DNSPE sponsorship prize in the Delta Small Prints National Exhibit at
the Bradbury Art Museum, Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AK. She is also
the past recipient of a Minnesota State Arts Board Career Opportunity Grant.

Her work is displayed in international collections such as the Polish National Museum of Art: KUMU National Art Museum, Tallinn, Estonia; Penang State Museum, Malaysia; the Centre for Fine Print Research, Bristol, UK; and the Minnesota Museum of American Art, St. Paul. Locally she has been exhibiting at SooVAC gallery in Minneapolis.  Ruthann was born in Indiana and currently lives and creates art in St. Paul.
