Since she was a very young child Rita Beyer Corrigan has always had an interest in drawing and

painting. “It’s all I ever wanted to do,” she says. Rita discovered pastels in the 1980s and experiments with pastel over watercolor. She continues to enjoy oil and images based on photos of landscapes, sunsets, and nature. Rita has contributed to Art 4 Shelter for several years. “I am deeply concerned with the number of homeless in our city and when I heard about

Art 4 Shelter from my daughter, Kat (who also is an artist), I thought it was a simple and fun way to help. I love to draw and paint from my photos and enjoy having a way to share my work.”

Rita is an art teacher and has also taught language arts and religion at a small Catholic school in Rosemount for 25 years. She has a studio in the Northrup King Building where she exhibits her work. She will have a solo show at the Dakota County Galaxie Library in Apple Valley from May-July as well as a solo show at the Wisdom Ways Center on the St. Catherine’s campus from June-Sept.

Most recently, two of Rita’s pastels were accepted into the Arts in Harmony International Juried

Art Show, Elk River, MN and she received a second place award for entry in the Seeing God Exhibit at the Benedictine Monastery, St. Paul. She recently received an Award of Excellence on a pastel at the MAA members show out of 94 entries. The show is at the Edina Art Center Gallery.
