We were honored to recently have a special visit from Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan at Simpson’s shelter. Guests staying at the shelter had the opportunity to join in an intimate dialogue with the elected officials, who sought to hear about guests’ experiences with homelessness, specifically seeking to understand what is working and what is not.
The engaging and responsive conversation created positive energy as participating guests later shared their experiences of the meeting with one another and volunteers.
Carolyn Morgan, shelter volunteer, shared two of her favorite quotes from guests:
“’Being homeless sucks, but knowing there is a good meal at the end of the day is amazing,’ and ‘Brownies make life worth living.’ Everyone loves a good brownie!”
Connecting with the community in this way and hearing the critical stories first hand is an incredible statement from our elected officials. We appreciate the work of Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan to ensure that everyone in Minnesota has access to safe and affordable housing. We are pleased to partner with them in this important work to end homelessness.
