John Grancorvitz paints primarily in watercolorand sometimes in scratchboard art. His artistic talent emerged when he was young, and his artistic medium changed over the years. “From a very early age, maybe five or six, I started drawing birds from a bird handbook and I haven’t stop drawing since. I started with pencil drawings, moved to scratchboard after high school, and migrated to watercolor once I wanted to add color to my art. I’ve been painting in watercolor for the past twenty years,” he says.
John enjoys painting people as they go about their everyday lives and activities. He finds great satisfaction and challenge in creating art.
This is John’s second year of contributing his work to Art 4 Shelter. He is inspired by how doing a small part can help so many people. “The sale of one painting can help shelter someone for a night. That’s fantastic!”
John’s award-winning work has appeared in many art shows and special exhibits including: 2018 (first honors), Minnesota Watercolor Society’sfall exhibition, 50–year anniversary of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway art show (two paintings selected), National Parks Centennial – Personal Narratives art show (one paintingselected), and 2019 Art 4 Shelter (one painting selected for poster/postcardpromotion).
Originally from Marshfield, Wisconsin, John now resides in Hudson, Wisconsin. In his spare time, he loves traveling to national parks.
