A Warm Welcome to Executive Director Tonya Brownlow

One week into her role as Executive Director, Tonya Brownlow is already getting to know the people, programs, and community at the heart of Simpson’s work.

This past week, Tonya has spent her time meeting and listening with staff, visiting Simpson’s shelter and housing programs, and connecting with teams across the organization.

What has stood out most to Tonya in her first week is the dedication of the people who make Simpson’s work possible every day.

“I am incredibly impressed by the commitment, compassion, and expertise of the Simpson team,” said Brownlow. “It’s an honor to join an organization with rich history, a strong foundation, and a deep commitment to housing, supporting, and empowering people impacted by homelessness.”

Tonya brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across the housing and homelessness sector, including housing stability, mental health, and supportive services. A licensed social worker, she has served in leadership roles at Twin Cities organizations including Our Saviour’s Housing, Cabrini Partnership, Agate Housing + Services, and most recently Emma Norton Services.

Throughout her career, Tonya has championed Housing First, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and supportive housing models that promote dignity, stability, and healing. She has worked to strengthen housing programs and organizational cultures. Her work is guided by the belief that ending homelessness is possible, and that all people need safe, dignified homes, and people in their lives who see and value them as unique individuals.

Tonya looks forward to building relationships with staff, donors, funders, community partners, and volunteers while advancing Simpson’s mission and vision for the future. She values meaningful partnerships that are essential to Simpson’s work and is excited to connect with people who care deeply about housing stability and ending homelessness.

Simpson Housing Services also extends its sincere gratitude to Associate Director Wendy Wiegmann, who served as Acting Executive Director during the leadership transition.

Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors, Wendy provided thoughtful stewardship and steady guidance, ensuring the organization remained focused on its mission throughout the transition. We are deeply grateful for Wendy’s leadership, partnership, and ongoing commitment to the work.

Please join us in welcoming Tonya to the Simpson Housing Services community at our third annual Simpson 360 gathering this November as we come together to celebrate Simpson’s new chapter.
